When You Only Have 5 Minutes to Connect... Do THIS!

Casey:

Attention busy couples. This podcast is for you. If you have ADHD or you are in a rush all the time, this is gonna be the podcast you wanna listen to.

Meygan:

Okay. So we thought it would be fun to do this quick episode for you guys who are very, very busy, and you only have five minutes to connect with your spouse. So maybe you've got young kids, maybe you travel for work, maybe you're just tired and exhausted. Either way, Casey and I each came up with a tip if you only have five minutes to connect and we haven't shared our answers with one another. So this should be fun.

Meygan:

I just thought about it. What if we have the same idea?

Casey:

Well That would be amazing. Right?

Meygan:

That would be even a quicker episode. Quicker?

Casey:

So we're we're looking for quicker and shorter.

Meygan:

Yep. There we go.

Casey:

Wow. Yeah. Well, if I only had five minutes to do you, I'd probably have sex.

Meygan:

To do me? Yeah. Okay. So wait. Yeah.

Meygan:

Wait. Have sex.

Casey:

Sex. Yes. Absolutely.

Meygan:

So then what are you gonna do with the other two and a half minutes?

Casey:

Okay. Wow. Wow.

Meygan:

I love you. I'm just kidding.

Casey:

So Wait.

Meygan:

Is that really your answer? Have sex.

Casey:

I'm so intense. No. Okay. Fine. The sixty second blessing.

Casey:

That's I went straight there because I am a words of affirmation person and finally it's, you know, five minutes to, you know, crash into you and in our worlds to collide. I'd I'd say sixty second blessing. We always talk about, it's about making love, literally. Like you make love and positivity for your relationship. So that's I think it's awesome.

Casey:

And then I think if you wanna make it better, just sit in the known position because then, you know, you're giving each other space, dedicated time. I think that's really powerful. If you only had five minutes.

Meygan:

Yeah. Which really the sixty second blessing is technically in two minutes time, but most people go over that. Yeah. And if you're like, what in the world is a sixty second blessing? What is this known position?

Meygan:

The known position, by the way, is not a sex position. Just search it in membership, and it will pop right up.

Casey:

They are two of our habits found in the marriage habit too.

Meygan:

In the in our book, The Habit. Yeah. Okay. So I did not pick that. So I'm really glad we don't have the same thing.

Meygan:

So then people would can walk away with some more advice. Woo hoo. Woo hoo. Okay. I think if you only have five minutes, you should go on a walk.

Meygan:

I think we are too sedentary. We sit too much. I think it's good for your health. I know that men specifically really like activities versus just like talking about their feelings on a chair or on a couch. I think men share more when they're walking.

Casey:

Agreed.

Meygan:

I just think it's good. I think it's good to be outside. Good nature. If you've got young kids and you're like, oh, I can't leave them, then just lap your house. Like it's really, it really it's free.

Meygan:

And then I think a lot of couples probably like, what do we talk about? Casey and I, when we don't have a lot of time, we do something called high, low buffalo. So we talk about a high of the day, like a win or something good. We talk about a low, something we didn't like, and buffalo could be anything. It is a like wild card.

Casey:

Or here's another structure. I like the start stop keep. Hey, in our relationship, what do we need to start doing, stop doing, or keep doing?

Meygan:

Love that.

Casey:

That's that's an easy just you don't have to that hard to memorize.

Meygan:

Start stop keep.

Casey:

However,

Meygan:

If you have our connecting questions book, which hopefully you do, there's a question a day for an entire year and then some. There's bonus sections. Look at the look at the question before you go on the walk, read it to each other, and then that's your conversation starter.

Casey:

It's awesome.

Meygan:

You don't even have to think of it.

Casey:

Yeah. But on top of all this, can we just pause for a second? Because if you're listening to this and you're like, oh gosh, you know guys, I only have five minutes for my spouse. I want to challenge you to slow down. If you only have five minutes to connect on a busy day, totally makes sense.

Casey:

But if this is a consistent pattern, maybe you're too busy. Maybe there's other yeses you've given to that are, you know, you have nothing left for your spouse. I mean, think about how much time you spend on your kids versus your spouse. Think about how much time you spend on your phone versus your spouse. Like, if they're literally getting the, like, leftovers and margins of your life.

Meygan:

Day after day after day.

Casey:

If you came if I came home and you said to me, Meygan, hey babe, I only got five minutes to connect with you and that was every time, I'd be pissed. I'd be like Yeah. Really?

Meygan:

Yeah.

Casey:

But you literally have no time for me?

Meygan:

Yeah. You would not feel prioritized. Well, and it's not sustainable. Like, again, a season or moments, days of the that's fine. That's normal.

Meygan:

That's even Casey and I, there are moments where we barely connect, but because we do the weekly marriage business meeting, we have already planned that out and have that mindset. But I've never met a couple who can only live off of five minutes. So Consistently. Consistently. Yeah.

Meygan:

So yeah, that's good.

Casey:

I wanna say if if they do get five minutes, I'll just add this. Usually that five minutes is squeezing in like a daily business meeting, like what's happening tomorrow and it's a scramble. So one of the reasons why we do the weekly marriage business meeting is to make sure that there may be one or two days. Yeah. We we only have five minutes.

Casey:

But where's us us time? Yeah. Like, okay, maybe Mhmm. On Monday, but Tuesday, let's make sure that we're on the couch connecting.

Meygan:

As a reminder, if you were dating and your now spouse said to you when you were dating, I can only give you five minutes a day. Oh. You would have never married them.

Casey:

Gosh.

Meygan:

Ever. Yeah. You'd been like, this is the most dull and boring relationship ever. So you made time then. You have to keep making time.

Casey:

Can you imagine

Meygan:

so Relationships require quality and quantity time. They I just

Casey:

wanna get married to you, but I just wanna let you know I'm only gonna give you five minutes a day.

Meygan:

You'd be like, I think I'm good. I don't think you're the yeah. So I think you're right, babe. I think if it's a season, it's mutual. There's days, there's moments.

Meygan:

Of course. Of course. We have to be gracious with one another. But if it's a pattern and it's not being corrected, then you need to have a bigger conversation. Alright.

Meygan:

So we leave you with two connecting questions. Alright? Ideally, you would ask that ask these to your spouse. On our busiest of days, what is one way you would like to connect? We just gave you a bunch of options.

Meygan:

Second question, what can we do to make sure we're not too busy for each other in the future? What do we need to say no to in order to say yes to our marriage?

Casey:

Love that.

Meygan:

Thank you guys for not being too busy to listen to our podcast.
